My father was diagnosed in December 07 with Stage IV stomach cancer. He has a 2 cm tumor in his stomach and enlarged lymph nodes in various parts of his body, but no other organs appear to be involved. On the left side of his neck he has pronounced lymph node swelling. He has been very active and healthy his entire life, and so, like for so many of you, this was a complete shock. He was started on chemo the first week in Jan 08 and has, overall, done fairly well. He maintained is weight, blood counts and liver function tests all bounce back well. In his most recent CT scan they saw no change. They told us this was actually good since it's a very aggressive cancer and they have other medication options. They basically said he is doing well, very strong and holding his own - despite the fact that he is 84. His age is no indication of his physical ability. In fact, even during his treatment cycles, he has still be out there with the snow blower - and is now currently turning the soil in his substantial garden getting ready for planting. The most difficult part for him is that he sees that large lump on the side of his neck. He feels that if that's not going away then he's not making progress with the chemo. His providers say it's an indicator for them, but are still hopeful given that they can try other options since it is stable and he is doing well otherwise. Currently, he is on ironotichian (sp) and they just added cisplatinum. Has anyone ever experienced the visible neck lump with stomach cancer and can anyone share thoughts/experience about his response - especially pertaining to the fact that it has not grown - but not shrunk either. Thanks, in advance, for your thoughts.
