Does anyone have a good list of supplements.

I know one person on the forum talked about a supplement that sent their MM into remission(including their cousin) and another who sent their MGUS into remission.

Thanks!

I hear of people doing B 12 shots, but how do you convince your doc to prescribe high doses or give the shots? My hemotologist says there is nothing to do dietary or supplement wise. I disagree!

I also see people taking beta glutan? Interesting. Why? I would think you would want to supress the immune system...not more attacks! I thought if you activate the autoimmune system, it may cause more attacks on the nerves if you have the protein in the peripheral nerves.

Hi I am one of the people who are in remission after taking polymva for MM. I was at end stage.  I had 98% plasma cells in my bone marrow biopsy.(30% plasma cells is considered stage 3 there is no stage 1V) I also added CoQ10, Raw vegetable juices, Immune system boosters, took 3 doses of Dexamethasone, 2 IV doses of Decadron, 4 doses of Zometa (until my doc told me about the side effects) I had a very light easily digestible diet. I took bowel cleanses and colonics, and liver cleanses...Coral calcium, NO SUGAR, in any form, water and organic red grape juice processes directly from the fresh picked grapes.  Lots of Curcumin (curry powder) In fact until my MM went into remission I did not like to eat anything unless it had curry powder in it. You can also go to several sites I will send a private email.  www.cancercenter.com also does natural along with traditional. Poly has been 45% effective in stage 4 cancers and 70% in other stages which is a high number. It also works well with chemo. In fact it lowers the side effects of the chemo. Hope this helps. MMS

Doctors who think there is no link between diet and cancer are quite behind the times and will soon be considered incompetent. There are now a largenumber of studies showing eliminating sugar, fats and red meat, and iNCLUDING 7-9 servings a day of fresh fruit and vegetables, along with daily exercise reduces recurrence rates significantly in breast and other cancers. The japanese have been including mushroom extracts and Chinese herbs as part of chemo regimens for years, and have stats to show how they support the work of the chemo drugs. Pauline

This is another I found:

Wow, that is a lot of supplements you listed. I see some of those would have been administered at the hospital. I have MGUS so I try to do everything right. I thought of going all raw, then going all vegan, then I found this Ecology Diet book that is interesting. The Body Ecology is interesting and talks about Candida and the many problems it causes including cancer. I guess this is similar to the gluten/celiac connection. I was avoiding meat and eggs, etc.......but after readint hsi book I started adding some. However, I always read to avoid all fats and oils when it comes to cancer/MGUS, etc. This woman who wrote this book is big on oils, cononut oil, flax oil, plenty of others. It is soooo confusing.

This topic is of great interest to me as well.  I have a file as thick as my wrist on this very subject.

There are very few papers on the connection between diet and MM, but the ones that do exist are fascinating, in my opinion.   But more to the point of your question, allegedly curcumin (turmeric) kills MM human cell lines in vitro.   I take this supplement every day--more than is recommended.

If you do a very thorough search of clinical trials regarding MGUS and MM, you will eventually find some trials that involve administration of NSAIDS daily, ascorbic acid, and probably curcumin.

Just speaking for myself, I take NSAIDS, curcumin, B-12 and Vitamin D supplements daily.   I've seen some good data on green tea, but I don't drink it, unfortunately.  I need to start!

Mike I just  purchased a book on MM that was on the John Hopkins website. It details MM, traditional treatment and alternative treatment. It does speak of the NSAIDS being helpful. I will read more and post several links they give. This book tells the technical details as well as what to ask your doctor, treatments and how they work, and the latest articles available. As MM is so deadly one has to be on the alert all the time. I must say that I don't eat as much curcumin at the moment as the craving for it was lessened when my MM went into remission but I do still use it.

I actually craved the curry and did not know why until I read later that it was a good adjunct to treatment. I had such a rare form of MM that I did not secret light chains, Proteins or anything associated with MM and only by bone marrow did I find out why my body shut down and why I was in such terrible pain. I had 98% plasma cells in my biopsy. So I truly am a miracle BUT I can never stop doing the natural supplements or my MM will rear its ugly head.  I want everyone here to get well and stay there!!MMS

Hi There

I have been living with myeloma since 2004 and wood say that juicing, sprouted seeds, herbs and supplements definately make a difference. I feel relatively ok and lead a near normal life. For imformation I would recommend anyone MM looks and Margarets blog site. She has done a fantastic job of looking up and posting a hugh amount of information on her blog site since she started it last year. She too lives with Myeloma and has some amazing results with large does of curcumin.

Hi everyone!

Reading these posts I just wanted to add the link to Margaret's corner blog, but then I found out Sue's already done it :-)

 Stay stable and well!
