Mets To The Bladder

My dad was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in November. Gleason score of 10 and PSA of 9. He had surgery, but it had already spread to the lymph nodes in the groin area. he also had a tumor in his urethra, but the bladder was clean. They could not do the prostatectomy. He has been recieving Lupron shots since November PSA in January was 7. Last week they found a tumor in his bladder. he is having surgery next Thursday to scrape down the tumor to provide him some comfort with voiding. I would like him to have a bone scan. His bones were clean in November also, or should he have an MRI instead?

Is there anything else that they can do for him, it seams to be a very aggressive cancer with scores that high. Any idea on how long he can live if it is very aggresive?

Your father has an aggressive cancer, and you mention several significant issues with his treatment. No one here, or elsewhere on the net can provide you with an answer to your question. There are treatments for all stages of prostate cancer. I read from your message that surgery was aborted and his prostate remains. It is possible that radiation can address the prostate area, though with local spread, as you indicate, and so soon after surgery(ies) the wisdom of this step is questionable. Your father needs an effective team on his side. If you are close enough to be part of the consultation, and he wishes it, please do so.
