Hi,

I'm not sure of your question. Usually as far as I know it's the CEA test the PSA is for prostate cancer. That is what I have hear and I'm no expert. Can you be more clear on your question?

Hi,

The best thing you can do is be there for him. This may be a very hard time for him and he will need a shoulder. Go to the Dr. visits help him to remeber his questions and the answers he gets from the Dr. Write thing down for him so you don't forget. Cook food for him. He may require help with house work rides for chemo and or radiation. Just be there its all you can do and it will be very important for him.

Good Luck!

Toni

Yes the PSA is for prostate cancer. There is some literature that suggests that those who have prior rectal ca are of incresed chance of prostate cancer, but if all you have had is a psa test they won't know that. There are many men who have a high PSA test and no cancer, so what is next is a biopsy of the prostate. From that you will know much more in terms of how high a score it is etc. For your father, given his age an option might be to do nothing and just monitor the situation. If you want some more info there are some good sites giving patient info on prostate cancer on the internet.

Hope this is of some help

Good luck with it all.
