My mother was diagnosed with GBM on Jan. 18th.  Surgery was not an option, as she has multiple tumor sites.  She went through the standard treatment of temodar plus radiation.  We have finished the treatment, but are waiting to meet with the doctors at Duke for our next treatment options.  In the meantime, my mother has become somewhat depressed.  Does anyone have any good ideas as to what we can do to encourage her and give her a special day?

Hi. My mother in law was recently diagnosed with GBM (Feb) also so I can relate...my mother in law has 5 days yet to go of treatment and then the waiting begins. Depending upon how she has responded to her treatments depends on what you could maybe do to cheer her up. If she's feeling good maybe you and she could just do something " normal". I know once they are diagnosed, it seems everything has to do with the tumor and cancer. Even if it's just the 2 of you going shopping or catching a movie. I'm sure she would like that. Or maybe if you all have family that doesn't live real close that she would maybe enjoy seeing...you could take her. If she's not feeling well, maybe just ask her "What do you feel like doing?" Just try to be as positive as you can and she should feed off of that. I commend you for taking care of her and trying to do what you think would make her happy. Good luck and God bless~

Hi,

My mom was put on anti depressants to help her cope with depression. It seemed to help.  Also, after her dx she liked to go for lunch, we would go and have a really nice meal and some wine.  My mom fought for 22 months but sadly passed away 1 year ago on April 2nd so now I'm on anti depressants.  Spend as much time with her as you can, I  am so grateful for all the time we had together and I hope for a cure of this horrible disease.

Be well and stay strong.

Dana
