Hi Friends:

Well I spoke too soon.  The med onc removed my hubbies 5FU infusion a day early as mucositis was taking over.  He has felt completely and entirely cruddy since last Thursday.  All over achy, low temperature, chills and very down in the dumps.  Docs recommended keeping to the house as much as possible to avoid infection and fatigue.  So, in addition to feeling like poop he is going stir crazy!

Crazy that the four days of 5FU affected him more than the four 170mg doses of Cisplatin!

Besides taking some ibuprofen or acetaminaphen, does anyone have suggestions?  He has Duke's mouthwash and Diflucan for the mucositis/thrush.  We do consider ourselves lucky that he doesn't have the mouth sores though!

Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks to all.

Oh bless him!!!  Yes definitely keep away from people for at least 10 days. no hugs or kisses. my nurse told me to tell them to hug themselves and blow kisses to me to show that they cared.  we used to laugh at that but it worked. the last thing he wants is an infection from someone!!

The aches and pains do subsise with time and so does the numbness. i had paracetomal. Its a bit like flu symptons. One minute i was frozen and couldnt get warm the next i had my feet in iced water!! crazy!! lol

I had instagel for mouth ulcers and that was great. Nystatin i had for thrush. also non alcohol mouth rinses. I used chlorhexadine gluconate antisepptic mouth wash. I think there is a pain killer in it. i found it good. people on this site rate biotin products. Dont know if they would be any good.

I cant tell you how yuck he ll be feeling, just be there for him. My husband was my rock. It does pass.

Good luck and positive thoughts xxx
