Has anyone experienced intermittent lupron therapy and been married to someone who has?  It is clear that the Lupron is effective in castrating my spouse.  He has had two treatments (October and February)?with the plan to have no more until his PSA rises again.  Is it likely that his sex drive will return (interest, not ability since radical prostatectomy removed that possibility).  I feel like I am living with my father or brother right now and just wonder if it will change in the future.  Thank you.

Yes, when hormone treatment has only been used for a relatively short time, function usually returns to normal after the medication is discontinued. This and difficulty with other side effects is the main reason many men use intermittent treatment.

As you probably there are a number of medications and other aids which could also assist.

Hello frightened wife,

I have been on lupron therapy for almost two years after my prostatectomy. In my case, too many nerves were removed to ever get a natural erection. I have since then had a penile prostesis installed. Even with this, my libido is next to none. I have a beautiful wife who has been so supportive. The libido is supposed to come back after you stop the treatments but I guess it depends on how long you have been on the lupron treatments.

I can tell you in my case, I still have interest in sex mainly because I know my wife is missing it terribly. But she is convinced that sex has been taken away from us and tries to live without it. Effexor (depression drug) helps me as I will probably be on lupron the rest of my life. My PSA  was rising on the Lupron so my doctor added another hormone blocker called Casodex.

I apoligize if I am rambling on, I can tell you much more but what's the point? The bottom line is to expect the libdo to not come back. If does wonderful but you won't be disappointed as bad if it doesn't come back.

I will tell you now that I was given a second chance or at least a longer time to live, my wife, children, parents, siblings, and friends mean so much more to me I can't explain it. Life is truely good.

My husband also has the effects of a prostate removed with nerves cut and his drive is almost gone.  I can tell you that we have filled our lives with many friends, family, golfing, movies and just being happy to be alive.  I know the adjustment to the lack of sex can be difficult but the thought of losing him is much worse.  Lupron and the fear of recur PC is enough to take the drive out of anyone.  We spend much time holding hands and cuddling and when he is out of sorts I must be patient because I know how worried he is even if he doesn't say so.  We do not live as 'borther and sister or as my father" because I still treat him as the man whom I can lean on and I respond to him warmly but he knows that no matter what having him alive is more important to me than sex so it is not an issue with us.    I  must tell you I am 15 years younger than him so I have wonderful memories of before PC and still have a wonderful life with him now.

I know it is so difficult and I really wish you well and please don't take the lack of drive personally.
