When Do I Reveiw My Metastasis Lung Noudles When On Sutent

I am suffering from renel cell carcinoma with 5-6 sub cms pulmonery noudles in lungs. I underwent left neprectomy in April 07 and was on interferon alpfa 2 b till 1/08. I switched over to sutent 50 mg daily 4 weeks on 2 weeks off. I have been managing side effects pretty well. I am about to start cylce. will somebody guide me when shall I go for review of my lung noudles (CT scan). Would also require advice for keeping my morale high

Rajasaju, my name is Kathy and my husband too has nodules on his lungs - left kidney removed in April of 07 and nodules showed up in September of 07.  My husband was on 37.5 of Sutent for 3 cycles and then Dr. did CT scan.  The CT scan showed no help using the Sutent.  Nodules doubled in size.  We see Dr. this Thursday 4/17 to see next course of treatment - thinking Torisel.  If possible, I would recommend having CT done after each round, but Dr. seem to think that isn't necessary, well Rich is proof that maybe we could have seen it wasn't working before tumors got bigger.  As far as the morale goes, I hope you have someone to help keep you strong.  It is so difficult and if you are alone dealing with this must be even harder.  This site I feel helps me.  Keep the faith and keep in touch.  Kathy

Thank you, Francese, for your helpful message.  My wife is in her 2d round of 28 days Sutent, 14 day holiday.  She had her right kidney out in January, 2005, the surgeon reported "clean margins", gave her a 75% chance of cure, but 3 years later the CT showed lesions in the liver & lungs.  Our son is a 3d year resident in urology & an invaluable resource. As I understand her prognosis, she will be on Sutent until the lesions show growth in spite of it.  She is tolerating the Sutent reasonably well, so my interest is what to do when there is progression of the disease. I am learning that the implications of any systemic treatment can limit options if that treatment fails. From what I have read on this site, it appears that others, after Sutent, have tried Torisel, Nexavar & Everlimus. I hope to hear of their experiences, which, for their sake, I pray are successful.

Hope your hubby would be feeling better now. are u still continuing with sutent, or shifted to torisel. I am under going CT scan on 17/5/08 as i have also complted 3rd cycle of sutent 50 mg. Pl do inform me about your husbands status.

Hi rajsaju,

 Husband did three rounds of Sutent and didn't work.  Switched to Nexavar 4/17 and had CT on 6/12 - nodules in lungs got larger 2 doubled in size and new one appeared.  Good news is mass on Posas muscle did decrease in side and did not spread to bone.  He is starting Torisel 6/23 once weekly infusion.  6 weeks and we see how it is working.  The emotional part of all of this I think is the hardest.  Keep me posted, keep strong and remember there are many people out there who love you and want to keep you so close to them.  Let them in.  Katrina
