My husband was diagnosed in December 2006, had surgery (got 100% of what they could see), had radiation, Temador, Avastin/CPT11, CNNU. Given 3-6 months to live.  This week he has begun his last scheduled Temador.  Duke has suggested an MRI and a PET scan and if okay, he go on Tamoxifen.  Have not read anything about this on this website.  Has anyone else undergone this course of treatment?  God bless all of you -

There have been some studies that suggest that a subgroup of patients with malignant gliomas respond or stabilize with chronic high-dose tamoxifen therapy ( 80mg/m2) . This therapy may represent an alternative or adjuvant to existing chemotherapies for these tumors but more studies are needed.  It may be worth a try.

What does "stabalize" mean?  How is your loved one differnet "now" as opposed to when diagnosed?

Best of luck,

He is back to work, still minor balance issues but otherwise seems to be doing okay other than when he is undergoing or just after treatment - suffers from fatigue.  We had no idea the tumor was there - fell on the school bus and hit his head causing the brain to swell, then had a seizure and the tumor was discovered.

My wife went through essentially the same treatment course.  They completed the PET and then put her on the tamoxifin for a year.  Things were fine for that time period and she enjoyed her 12 months chemo-free.  Unfortunately the tumor has come back and we have started another treatment.

What type of treatment is she now receiving?
