Stem Cell Transplant

My sister is going in for round 2 of chemo and is scheduled to have a stem cell transplant if the MCL goes into remission.  Does anyone have information about the success of the stem cell transplant?

 

 

This is the one year third month after my stem cell trans, althought Im still having back pain I feel great .Right now as a matter of fact my second session, of radiation is taking place this should stop any pain that Im having, so good luck, dont worry, things will be fine, jack b 58 years oldcontact me at   --Message edited by CancerCompass staff. Dx @ age 57 in March 05 with stage IV MCL and had an auto stem cell in Nov 05, I am still around to aggravate my wife and family.  There are many of us around who have been thru the proceedure and despite some minor aches and issues are doing well

My husband has MCL stage IV, he's just had R-CHOP number 5 and will have number 6 in a few weeks, then goes on to the procedure for auto transplant. PET/CAT scans were done just before session 5, also blood test and bone marrow biopsy. Good news was that the scans and bone marrow show zero cancer, but the blood test still shows cancer cells. Can I ask you (or anyone else who has been through this and reads this message) if you also still had cancer cells showing in the blood at around this stage? Also can I please ask if the radiation treatment you are having is a maintenance therapy? We have heard that some people have continuing treatment with Rituxan as maintenance after transplant and I'm just trying to gather info and experiences to discuss with the specialists.

I had the transplant and am now on Rituxan maintenence. NO radiation ever, except during prep for transplant.

Auto or allo?  My husband had an auto in 2005 in Seattle.  It was a clinical trial and we knew going in that they were only expecting a 3 year remission.  He went out of remission 3 years to the day, pretty ironic.  We're now considering an allo using his brother's stem cells.  The hope with an allo is that the GvHD isn't too bad and you get a cure.  I think the odds with an allo are high cure.  There were two young men at the clinic when we were there and I still communicate with their wives and they are doing great.  Both have completed a PhD program.  Where's the transplant going to be done?
