Anyone else experiencing or have experienced after getting TT their cholesterol shooting up and have the onset of type 2 Diabetes?  I have only gained 5 pounds after the surgery, but cannot do the same physical activity due to still having a paralyzed vocal chord which causes a restricted airway and voice/breathing problems.  Could the shift in hormones cause this change?  Or just the lack of excercise-

 Thanks-

 Shay

Hi, I'm in the same boat! I had pre-diabetes (questionable) before my TT on Nov. 07, but no my blood sugar has been steadily going up. I've actually lost 25 since my surgery which is surprising (believe me... I'm not complaining). I am worried because I don't want to end up with full-blown diabetes. My endo has me on Metformin (rx to treat high blood sugar) and I've decided to start somewhat of a "diabetic diet" so as to try to prevent this from developing into something worse! Maybe you can mention to your doctor what preventive measurements you can take to see if its possible to "stop/slow down" the progression. I'm still hoping that once the thorid meds get completely adjusted that this will get adjusted as well! GOOD LUCK!! -Rocio

Thanks for the info!

I have gained 10 punds since the surgery, not much of a change-  I have started on a diet though, I do not want to get diabetes!

My doctor said I could expect high cholesterol to show up after surgery & RAI treatment but that it would level back out so he did not put me on any meds.  (He is the top radiologist/endo doctor in the hospital and has been for over 40 years.)

Are you on Synthroid or other T4 only thyroid med?  I know of other people that developed diabetes while on these.  You may want to get on the internet and read about T3 - T4 meds such as Armour or Thyrolar.  I know of at least two (or three) people that had their diabetes disappear when they changed meds.......
