Go to a gynocologistoncologist to see if Arimidex, a hormonal treatment, might be worth trying. Arimidex has been used successfully for breast cancer but is now being used for endometrial cancer if the cancer tissure indicates that the cancer is being fed by hormones. The Arimidex is supposed to slowly stop the production of estrogen in the body. It is a stystimic treatment tat is supposed to slow down the growth of cancer throughout the body.
I have recurring endometrial cancer that has penetrated the bladder and has spread to the outside of the abdominal and intestinal areas so the attempt to do surgery failed because of the mastastisis. But the surgeon was able to do an exploratory and get some tissue testing that helps determine what is feeding the cancer. I have been taking the Arimidex daily since December, 2007. The Pet scans taken in March showed shrinkage of the tumor. I will have another Pet/CatScan later this month, June) to see if things are still improving.
Before having the exploratory surgery, I was given 5 weeks of daily radiation (except for weekends) but it did not eradiacate the cancer because I have a very large tumor.
I was referred to UCDavis in Sacramento by my local doctor, Dr. Rodriquize was my gynlcologistoncologist surgeon there.
Best of luck and my prayers go out to your sister. Norah
