Subject: why does the rash continue? and is so itchy...
Date: 04/18/2008

This question is from my dad, who finished chemo end of this past Feb..  he is moving on with life..(colon cancer).. but has a irritating.. itch and rash all over his body..that comes and goes..

We assumed once his white cell count increased..whatever it was, would fight this infection and clear up the itch.. but so far he still has it..

anyway, I always turn to this site.. for questions.. and there are such wonderful people on it..who have been most helpful these past 12 months.

Thank you once again, Christine.

Christine,

Don't know if this helps, but my dad also got very itchy lately (he's still on treatment) and the redness from the rash caused by the Vectibix of about 6 months ago is just now subsiding.  His doc said sometimes chemo patients are extremely sensitive to things they never had reaction to before and he suggested the following: washing clothes with DREFT (it's the detergent used to wash newborn clothes), bathing with Ivory or Dove soap only and maybe every once in a few days with Dial anti-bacterial, but certainly the milder soaps for every day use, also tried a type of cortisone cream. My dad likes Eucerin's heavy duty cream, and no dry cleaning. All my dad did was to change to Ivory sopa and put some good cream on the itchy parts and it subsided almost instantly. Worth a try. Hope I've helped.

So I'm not the only one. It didn't start until 9 weeks after chemo finished. I wasn't even sure that it was chemo related. When it gets too bad I've been taking anti histamines. They work but it looks like I should be addressing the root cause of the problem.

I am taking Erbutix for colon cancer and developed a rash after one week. I am now taking Minocycline 100 mg and the rash        has disappeared in one week.

I hope this can help.
