Subject: Frequent Urination Following IMRT
Date: 04/20/2008

I have completed 41 sessions of imrt as of april 4 and am still getting up nights every two hours minimum. I have been on flomax for a month. Is there a good chance that i will get a full nights sleep in the near future ?

Hi Patrick,

You should be finished with IMRT, are you?

I had the same experience, I was up every two hours, it was not fun.  About a month after the completion of my radiation I had a complete obstruction caused by scar tissue, I had had a radical previous to the radiation and this is a common issue when radiation is performed soon after surgery.  Ever since I have been able to sleep again the whole night.  I am sure once the effect of radiation have left your system you will also be able to go through the night.  It may take a while yet, hang in there, it will get better.

I too have had the 5 week IMRT 6 weeks after Brachytherapy. finished my treatments last week and have not been able to urinate or defacate regularly in 3 months.I take flomax '4mg twice a day and it does not seem  to help. Urination is a timely process and  go every 2 hours with much straining. now for the good news...all reports tell me  that as soon as the radiation is over that normal function should return in about a month.. so hang in there and good luck. At least you don't have to catherize yourself as I have had to.
