Subject: Touching of the head at tumor site...progression??
Date: 04/23/2008

After just finishing up her first round of treatment(radiation/chemo) my mother in law is feeling better (dx GBM 2/08 95% resection) But I have a question..I know I've read where babies and children of an age where they can't talk put their hands to their head, more specifically the tumor site when they are in pain or when the tumor is progressing. I wonder if subconciously adults can do this also? I ask because we have noticed she frequently puts her hand to her tumor site. I pray that this doesn't have anything to do with its progression. If anyone else has experienced this or had a loved one who has please let me know. Any insight would be great. Thanks and God bless~

We're 5 months since diagnosis and my Dad still rubs his head alot but I attribute it to the lack of hair in that area and more of a texture thing?!?.

We are nine months in...
I see Dad touching his head... but I belive it is because he thinks it feels different since his surgery... plus the loss of hair

I had full resection right occipital lobe in Sept last year. I'm always touching my head still. Partly because of some stubble growing and partly because it's often still numb at incision site. Still have no tumor regrowth. Hope that's the case for her, too.

I hope it doesn't mean anything.  I'm half-way through my chemo plus radiation treatment and I do it all the time.  My head just feels weird and it feels better to hold it, to comfort it.  I also am more likely to do it when it is painful.  I think it is just an automatic response to a hurt part of your body.  Hope your mother-in-law gets good test results.

I am always rubbing the surgery sight, it annoys me.  I can't sleep on that side, ever.  I had my 1st surgery 8 years ago and then again over winter 07.  They drill so many bore holes and the titanium plate is weird.  Never feels the same again.
