Mine was low one week after surgery.  I use Viactive and Tums and my levels are fine.  I'm on 1250mg/day.  You may need more.  Viactive tastes great!  They both contain Vitamin D also.

Calcium levels will be low if your albumin is low; it is not common for ca++ levels to be low as the body will pull ca++ from the bone to keep body levels normal.

After surgery or when a lot of iv fluid is given it is also not unusual for it to be low if checked shortly after surgery.

Consider supplementing Ca++ up to a total of 2000 mg/d from food and supplements is ok as this is the upper limit considered safe.  At the same time consider 1000 IUs of Vit D.

If your MD is concerned about the low level then an ionized ca++ levle may be in order.

Thanks for sharing - your info helps us all.  My friend owns a health food store in Virginia Beach & they manufacture a liquid Calcium, Mag, & Zinc product that tastes good & may be helpful to some of you - you can look up the info on line "The Heritage Store"  I believe.   I just ordered some for myself...........
