High Grade SIL

Hi everybody,

I'm new to the site and decided to sign on because your stories sound familiar.  I was diagnosed with estrogen receptor positive breast cancer in April 2004.  I decided on a mastectomy and chemotherapy for treatment.  I also take Arimidex which is prescribed for 5 years post treatment to prevent the reoccurrence of breast cancer.   Since my breast cancer was estrogen receptor positive, and my mom's sister died from ovarian cancer, the decision was made to have a complete hysterectomy.  This was done in July 2005.  The pathology from the hysterectomy showed no signs of cancer.  All my pap smears, both pre and post hysterectomy have been normal.  In July 2007, I got my first Low Grade SIL pap smear.  A colposcopy was done, nothing was found, no biopsy performed.  I had my 6 month follow up pap smear on 03/21/2008 and it came back as High Grade SIL and HPV positive.  A colposcopy was done on 04/22/08.  The Dr. found a couple of small lesions which were biopsied.  I am now waiting to hear the results.  I am about to go out of my mind!  I should be celebrating my 4th year cancer free.  But now I'm thinking I have to start all over again with treatment.  How does this happen so suddenly, is there something in the water!

Hi...I know it has been a year but I am currently in the same boat you were in last year.  Please tell me the outcome of your treatment.  I also have Higrade SIL considered VAIN III and my first apppt isnt until next Thursday at the Oncologist in Atlanta.  and my pap smear last year was fine.  My paps for the past 19 years have been normal.  Please reply so myself and others will know how it went.  Thank you!

The colposcopy showed low grade SIL so I was sent to a gyn oncologist.  The pap was repeated as well as a biopsy which came back low grade, HPV positive.  The specialist recommended follow up pap smears every 6 months.  The Guardisil vaccine was also recommended.  The thought behind that was it may prevent additional cellular changes.  I had a follow up pap with my regular gyn in November, the pap is the same.  I receive the 3 Guardisil vaccines and will get my 6 month pap again in a couple of weeks.  So, I have decided to continue to follow up with my regular gyn and try not to worry about it.  This will probably be the norm for me now.  I trust my regular gyn completely.  If she feels I need something more, she will let me know.
