Hi - has anyone been on or is taking XELODA?

I have/had Pancreatic Cancer and had the Whipple procedure done in August 2006. I have been on chemo (5fu and GEMZAR) since October 2006. A couple of months ago they founs a few spots on my lungs, to small to be anything yet.

As a precaution, my oncologist put me on XELODA. I am now into the 2nd cycle and I aked him today how long I will be on it. He said is it's working we will see. My statement was, if you don't know what the spots are, and if they go away in my next CAT scan, it means they were Cancer. He said yes, but I still don't have an answer as to how long I will be on XELODA.

It seems as if I am rambling and probably am, but anyone who has dealt with XELODA, how long have you been on it.......? I really don't have many of the side effects, just don't want to be on the drug.

Thanks and God bless

My mother was on Xeloda (as well as other medications) for some time, and it seemed pretty effective for her. She was too far advanced for the whipple, but the side effects ofthe xeloda were not too bad for her.

My father is currently on Xeloda. The side effects aren't too bad, but he does get diarrhea. They say that Xeloda is more of a stabilizer than anything, but we believe it is going to conquer the cancer. Along with the Oxiliplatin he is taking.

I had the Whipple on Aug 30th of last year. After 6 weeks my oncologist put me on the Virginia Mason regimen which consists of Cisplatin weekly, interferon 3x per week and Xeloda daily along with radiation (simultaneously for 30 days). After another 6 weeks we went back to Xeloda (2 weeks on and 1 week off) for 4 cycles.

I had minimal side effects, loose stool and fatigue. I seem to be doing well now. I have my next blood work and Cat scan in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the info. I too have a scan in 2 weeks.... Good luck to both of us.

I start my 3rd cycle next week with Xeloda. Main reason I'm fighting it is because I still have cancer, while my oncologists says it's precautionary. Guess only God knows.

Take care and good luck and Gob Bless.

My husband is taking xeloda and he is post whipple August 2007.  He has recently complained of joints (hip and knee specifically) aching badly.  In fact he tells me he feels like he is 90 years old.  He is 48.  He is thinking it's from the xeloda but after reading everyone's message I'm thinking not.  He had CT scans of the chest, stomach and pelvic last week and we get the results this week.  He also had unexplained spots on his lungs that after a z-pac antibiotic they started to decrease.  His CA-19 is 40.  I don't know what that means but they seem to be doing everything precautionary.  When first dx'd it had metasisized to lymph nodes.  But January Pet scan showed no cancer.  It is always a mystery but we will keep up the good fight.  Thanks for all your insight.

I had my cat scan Thursday and will get the results Tuesday. Reason they put me on Xeloda was undetermined spots on my lungs. Oncologist thinks the Xeloda will get rid of the spots, but then that means they were cancerous. Go figure. Always a battle somewhere....

Take care - hope the scan goes well. Keep me (us) posted.
