Is Tg ( thyroglobulin) of 3.0 (unsurpressed) a good result?

Does it mean that all my thyroid cancer has gone?

Thyroglobulin antibodies: 37 IU/ml
Thyroid Peroxidase       :13  IU/ml

Comment: The presence of anti-thyroglobulin antibodies may cause falsely low
thyroglobulin results, including undetectable thyroglobulin results..

Previous Tg result was <1 ( suppressed)..  6 months ago

TT  June 07
RAI 27mci  Feb 08
3 x micro pap cancers.
40yr
Levothyroxine 150mcg

Ideally, they want your Tg at zero after a TT and on Levothyroxine.

I am not a doctor, but have a similar problem with having a higher Tg level than my Endo wants.  I just completed  Thyrogen injections, a PET and a CT scan, Lab work, and a WBS after tracer dose of I-131.  All the scans were negative for tumors or any suspicious masses or focus areas.  The fact that I still have a higher Tg level concerns my Endo, but because the scans were all negative, he is not changing my treatment at this time.  I'm on 150mcg of Levoxyl.

Do a Google search on Thyroglobulin and you'll find some pretty informative sites (I just did this morning!).  Unlike you, I do not know if I was tested for Anti-Thyroglobulin antibodies, but the presence of those antibodies can give a false high or false low reading of Tg level.

A question, why did they wait so long to do your RAI after your TT?

Hi there,

That's the question I want to know why the doctors didn't give me RAI straight after my TT surgery..

I think my case was a very borderline case as to whether I was really needed RAI or not..I had only 3 x pap cancer nodules, the biggest being 5mm .. It was only the fact that mine was multi-focal that I decided to do RAI

So a Tg of 3.0 is not good and a cause for concern?

I'd recommend you talk with your doctor to find out if he/she is concerned about your Tg level.  Ask, too, why they waited to do the RAI.  If you feel you aren't getting good answers then go for a second opinion somewhere else.  It's your life, and you have to take care of yourself.

Hi there

Is your Tg level of 5.0 suppressed or unsuppressed?

Yours is alot higher than mine, all the best with your tests..

I haven't done either a PET or  CT scan or WBS scan.. My Tg may well be dropping after my RAI in Feb ''08.

The trouble is with Tg antibodies.. Which I hope disappears soon..

Do you think I should wait till I get my Tg blood test done in August when I do a diagnostic scan?

Or do you think  I should be pressing my endo to do all of the above?

Since you just had your RAI in February, I'd wait to visit with your doctor again in August as scheduled.  My Endo told me the RAI ablation treatment continues to work for several months, so maybe your Tg level will drop as time goes on.

Sometimes all this stuff makes my head hurt; suppressed/unsupressed... my Tg level of about 5 is while taking Levoxyl.  It went up to 13 or so after my Thyrogen injections and pre-RAI tracer dose.  I may stand corrected when I receive the letter the Endo always sends out detailing all the results, though.
