My mother had her EC surgery on Jan. 29 and she is doing very well.  She had her entire esophagus removed, a scare by her clavicle and down the abdomen.  She recoverered better than we expected, didn't need the expected feeding tube after surgery.  She was taking fluids by mouth a week after surgery with no problems.  She lost weight after going home but has since gained the weight back.  I wanted to update her status because this site helped me after her diagnosis so much.  It was so informative and comforting to have a place to go as a caregiver or patient.  My mom does still struggle with worrying about her future.  She recently had a PET scan and the physician office moved up her appointment time.  They told her it was because the doctor will be out of town but she is thinking otherwise.  She made me nervous, so I called and they told me the samething.  I encourage her as much as possible but I am sure it would be nice if she had a significant other to help her through this rough time.  She's recently divorced and lives near her ex-husband (my dad), weird set-up.  I just want her to live life to it's fullest but she just want's to take it easy.  The Oncologist tells her to go and take a trip, enjoy herself because she doing great and looks good, but she doesn't want to do too much.  I know she doesn't like living alone, but she says she doesn't want to think about another man.  I know she's lonely, but I can't help her with that.  I hope that this message finds all of you blessed and if I can be of any assistance, don't hesitate leaving me a message.  Be blessed, stay encouraged and love life.

I am glad to see that your Mom is doing so well. Please do update with good news. We can all use it. I don't post as much as I use to but I still check in. My mama has had a rough year so far. Not with cancer, thank God, but with COPD. So trying to work and take care of her doesn't leave me much time to post messages. I hope things continue to go well for you and your mom.

Thanks for the reply.  We received results from the PET scan and a lymph node is suspicious next to her clavicle.  It will be removed on Tuesday next week.  My mom is concerned about this because she thought since she went through the surgery, she was done with all of the bad news.  I told her it could be worse, but I think she just wants all of this to be over.  She's never been sick and this is so tough for her.  I will keep encouraging her and keep posting here.  Be blessed and stay strong!
