My sister has SCLC and has received second round of Chemo last week and had one 5 day round of Radiation a 4 weeks ago but was so depressed and felt so bad it was discontinued for now. She is receiving all shots available and me and my youngest sister are driving to Waco to take her to her treatments at Scott and White in Temple, Tx, we are doing the cleaning, shopping, bill paying, trying to file her disability, and anything else needed but she doesn't even want to get out of bed. Does any one know if this is normal. ALso what benefit do blood transfusions serve. She is not a canidate for surgery due to the type of cancer. It was only in one lung. We are waiting to hear back when her next CT Scan will be scheduled - hopefully this week. Before her treatments her chest hurt really bad, she had a hard time breathing, and would cough with every word. But after her first round of Chemo and Radiation I noticed all three of the above subsided. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Debbie,
I think it would be normal for a very depressed person not to want to get out of bed while she tries to come to terms with her situation. You might try to get her a prescription for antidepressants if she's not on them already - they work well for some people. There may also be the option of getting some professional help for her depression. And if she's on the internet she may find the website
www.lchelp.org
a valuable source of support. Hopefully some others will post in with more suggestions for helping to get your sister back on her feet.

You can find various links to lung cancer information and support on my webpage
www.cancerwebsites.org/lung
I hope this helps a bit.
Regards, Ed E.
