Hello fellow tumor sufferers...

Just wondering if anyone out there has any complaints about fluid in the inner-ear during radiation treatment and what you've done to fix the problem (if anything)?

My wife had lots of issues with the sensation of fluid in her ears late in her radiation treatment and for many months after. She saw an ENT doctor twice, but they could never find any fluid in the ear. The sensation would come and go, never caused pain though, just annoying. It would muffle her hearing some what in the affected ear. She never had any balance issues. The ear in question was on the same side of her head as the tumor was.

My father had fluid in his ear and drove him crazy. Went to ENT and he said that this is common after radiation. He recommended tubes in the ear just like for children. The tubes allow air to enter and keep it dry.

Good luck

My mom too, had this EXTREMELY irritating condition following cessation of radiation treatment. It affected her hearing significantly and her ear was very sensitive to even the slightest breeze. She was told that it was a side effect of the radiation, but no solution was offerred. She would have readily had tubes in her ears if that had been suggested.

My dad claimed this after his surgery. His tumor was removed from the left temporal lobe. The doctors always checked his ears to be fine and was told maybe it was his jaw...possible TMJ?? And he should see a dentist....needless to say he never had the issue resolved either. He is just living with hit. We never were told it could be a side effect to radiation? That's interesting.

I failed to mention that my father did get the tube and problem was solved.

Very simple procedure in the office.
