Hi. Although I've gotten reassurance from my Endo about this, it still scares me. In May '07 I had 2 surgeries for papillary microfocal cancer, and ablation/ body scan/ TSH withdrawal in August '07. A thyroglobulin test in Nov showed no activity. Just last week, I had my first set of Thyrogen shots for my annual re-check(with plenty of side effects, I might add).
Anyway, I was not required to do the LID again or any other tests--just the shots alone. I'm noticing that everyone else seems to get at least an ultrasound or body scan along with the shots. My Endo says that because my thyroid is totally gone, it's a waste of $ to do anything more. If my thyroglobulin test shows activity after the shots, then he'll do the scan, etc. He's very adament about it, and insists that less than 1% of cancer is missed by doing Thyrogen alone. With the way my year has been, I'd probably fall into that 1%!
I know there's a great debate about the accuracy of Thyrogen. I guess realistically I'm looking for one more person to confirm what my Endo says, so that I don't worry to death for the next year. Thanks for any comments.
