Hi everyone
My husband was diagnosed with PTC in December and has since had a total thyroidectomy and just one week ago had his RAI treatment. The mass was 1.5 cm. (That was the largest one) There were several throughout the thyroid. Two of four nodes removed were positive. The endo said after reading the pathology report that there was some slight growth outside of the thyroid and she was going to treat him as higher risk despite his age. (under 45) The surgeon, however, said that she thought it wasn't really outside of the thyroid and that "just because my scalpel happened to find extra tissue doesn't mean I was looking for clear margins." I *wish* I had asked her what the heck that meant but I was trying to digest it all as I had a million questions for her. Anyway, she seemed unconcerned and released my husband back to the endo for his RAI. He had that as I said a week ago and just had his WBS today. The technician told him that she saw uptake in the neck area but nowhere else. I am thinking that's the best news...it worked as far as absorbing the iodine but there doesn't seem to be any cancer in the rest of his body. We will get the exact report from the endo tomorrow. I was just wondering if anyone here knows what their tg level was after surgery but before RAI. My husband's was 13. It seems high but I know it could be leftover tissue, etc. I also know that the test isn't reliable before RAI. I'm just curious if anyone here knows what theirs was and if it's possible to go from a 13 to a 0 after RAI.
Thank you so much for all of your posts...I have been reading since my husbands diagnosis and you saved me a lot of sleepless nights by sharing things that you went through and it helped me understand so much. I really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any information you might have.
Karen
