my mom has klatskins tumors (stage 4) she had an issue where she had fluid extend her stomach and was in the hospital because her doctor wouldnt drain it. Needless to say they did drain her when she went to the hospital because she couldn't breath. Now, a few months later the cancer seems to have the breaks on it however she suffers from depression she is convinced eatting will cause her to fill with fluid again although psychologists, nurses, and doctors have said otherwise. She is down to about 100lbs and getting her to eat is a daily struggle. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions for some form of motivation anyone else has used? Eventually their going to stop chemo because of the weight loss we keep tellig her the cancer isn't what is going to kill her at this point

Hi,

May be this helps. My husband was diagnosed with stage IV last year May. Surgery was not possible. Life-prediction 2-3 months. My husband started eating again, to regain his weightloss. We are a year later now and he is still doing fine. The doctors said, that eating is one of the things that is keeping him so well. He doesnot eat large quantities, but 5 times a day. He eats what he likes and in stead of meat (which he doesnot like so much anymore) he eats eggs, fish and extra beans. And a lot of fruit.

Though we know the cancer is not gone and probably will give him less time to live than we hoped, he feels very good and is immensely happy with every day.

I wish you, your mum and your family all the strength in the world. Eating and a positive attitude will give her more good time.

Iris.

Thank you for responding. We are trying the small meals a few times a day. My mother as well has inoperable. It will be a year next month that she was diagnosed and she did fairly well for a while. We are actually about to change doctors this week because we think a lot of the doctors attitude has a lot to do with why my  mother has "lost hope". I've found female doctors in general tend to treat things with a "that's life" attitude where men a little more caring so we are going to try this out. I have her now on five small foods a day and two ensures, although she has not gained weight i feel like it is a step in the right direction.

Another thing that has worked in the past and i'm going to try again is a DVD she got from someone after she was diagnosed called "the secret" it gave her a positive attitude back then and she was doing awesome when she had a positive outlook.

It is ashame not more research is done for this disease...it not only affects the person who is diagnosed but the whole family and it just feels like the doctors because they deal with death every day the patient is just another number not a person.

I wish you luck it is good to see someone has outdone the odds and proven doctors wrong. My regards to you and your family
