Hello Everyone I'm New Here I've been searching Everywhere for any information on Screening . My husbands father was just diagnosed with pacreatic cancer it is in his lungs and liver. His doctor is taking there sweet old time with getting the stage the only thing they say is he can't do chemo. He had blood taken--some number came back at 600 and he had a ct scan-mri-they are talking about biopsy but nothings clear yet other then he has it. My husbands fathers two brothers just died of this and both his parents died of it!! My husbands brother is now having issue's with plugged bile ducts in that area and is diabetic. And I just had a baby boy!

I am scared for my father in law my husband and now my little boy!!

My husband is only 34 I need to be as proactive as possible what can i do?? I can't raise babies without him

Anyway to find out about my son what are the chances for him?

Another thing that is really hard are the stages of grief his dad will not talk about it....he's pushing everyone away!

If your father-in-laws cancer is in his lungs and liver from an original site in the pancreas, it Stage 4. Surgery will not be possible but chemo may buy him some time.

I can understand your fear about your husband and your son. You need to get in touch with an organization such as Pancan and get information on places that are doing work on early detection in high-risk populations. There may be studies your family can participate in that may help not only you, but future families at high risk. Good luck

Hi,

So is family screening something you go to a doctor and just ask about? Any idea how insurance handles that? I was also just informed the it may be genetic. Ugh. My dad was just retired 3 weeks, then this hits. He may be on borrowed time ...

Thank you -

When my husband died, I asked the oncologist about the chances of any of the children developing PC. His reply was that since my husband was the first and only person in his family to get the disease, it is probably not familial. I still caution my son and stepsons not to ignore any digestive/abdominal symptoms they experience when they get older.

I know that the family of President Jimmy Carter experienced the familial form of PC. Jimmy's the only one of his immediate family to dodge the bullet. Both parents, two sisters and his brother all died of pancreatic cancer. Jimmy, by the way, is the only one who never smoked.
