low hemoglobin

hello...my mother has low hemoglobin...any advice on how to raise it...thanks

  My husband's hemoglobin recently dropped to 7.7 (normal for a man is about 13--a woman 12). Needless to say he could bearly walk. The oncologist told us that iron supplements may not be a good idea for colon cancer patients as studies seem to indicate that the iron exacerates growth of the cancer cells. He ended up going to the hospital for two blood transfusions. Now we are having his blood tested weekly to make sure it doesn't get that low again. You should ask your doctor what would be the safest solution for your mother.
