Subject: Life after RAI

I have 1 1/2 days left of isolation.  I had RAI on Wednesday and they are "letting me out" on Saturday.  I've been very good while in isolation.  I've been taking 2-3 showers/day, constantly cleaning the bathroom, washing my clothes, changing bed linens etc. etc.  I've even been wearing latex gloves whenever possible.  With that said, I have alot of questions concerning life after RAI.

1.  If I touched something without gloves (eg.bed post), how long is it contaminated?  Is it safe for my husband when he returns to the room on Saturday?

2.  I'm out of isolation on Saturday but WBS is next Wednesday.  Should I still follow any restrictions besides LID?  Like hugging and kissing, seeing friends, petting my animals, preparing food etc.?

3.  If you are still contaminated for the next six months, at what point do you know you and your family are safe?  Does anyone ever test you?

4.  When are you safe to have sexual relations?

I just have no idea what life is going to look like after tomorrow.  I don't see any doctors until Wednesday.  Input from those who have been through this will be greatly appreciated!  Otherwise I'm feeling good and still have no side effects!

I live in Canada and here is what I did. Had my RAI on Wed april 30. Had the 150 standard dose. Stayed in the hospital for 2 days by the time I left my radiation level was 30 (do not know the units of measurement). By this time you will not leave residue when you touch things. But you will if you sleep of sit on things for a prolong period of time. Here is the outline they gave in when I left the hospital.

-Minimize contact (less than 3 feet for more than 1 hour daily) with everyone for the first five days and with small children or pregnant woman for eight days.

-Do not sit next to someone in an automobile for more than 1 hour for 5 days

-sleep in a separate room and use separate bath linen and lauder these and underclothing separately for one week

-Use separate eating utensil or use disposables

Hope that helps

Hi Donna

Just curious what medication you are on. Armour or Synthroid?
