stumping the doctors prostate and bladder

My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the spring of 2004.  Went through treatment.  The doctors were successful in treating.  PSA back in normal range.  This last fall, they diagnosed him with bladder cancer in which he went through two rounds of 6 week chemo before the biopsy came back negative.  Immediately following his last treatment, he was admitted to the hospital for a number of reasons, one of which was pain near his hip.  Did a scan and suspect a bone near his hip for bone cancer.  Meanwhile, in the hospital he started retaining water, so they did a number of liver tests and blood tests.  Put him on restrictive fluid intake and occasional diuretic as needed. Also, came down with pneumonia. Put him on antibiotic drip.   Are currently concerned about elevated liver enzymes and possible infection - of what they cannot determine yet.  The hospital today is transporting him to Hershey Medical Center in the hope of finding some answers.  And until they figure out the first part of the puzzle, the bone biopsy is being put on the back burner.

I live 6 - 8 hours away and have a family with 2 young children.  My mother is in contact with me on a daily basis, and explains to me as much as she is able.  With all the things that this man is going through, I just wonder if he is as unique a case as doctors claim.

Has anyone else any experience with symptoms similiar to these?

My father had both his bladder and prostate removed two years ago.  He ended up having cancer in both.  He too was put on antibotics and his liver levels went crazy.  it was determined that he had a reaction/allergy to the antibiotic.  Augumentin is one drug that has reported cases of this.  Im not sure what your dad is on but seek a hepatologist and possible infectious disease consult.

My 32 yr old son just had his 5th bladder cancer surgery a week ago.  He experiences pain every where with increased liver and cell enzymes as well.  He con't focus, he now has become lethargic and no one can find anything wrong with him.  He is not on any specific medication except for a pain killer.  The Dr doesnt want to remove his bladder (he says) due to too many deaths occurring from this kind of surgery.  Of course my son is on a state provided insurance that I believe is keeping him from the best care he could be getting.  But, he is always in pain and misery, cant work and turned down for disability.

I have yet to hear about anyone being successful getting disability without getting help from a lawyer.  Don't give up!  A lawyer's charges are limited by law and controlled by Social Security.  Go back and fight for your son's rights!

I am sorry to hear about everyone's struggles.  My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had his prostate removed.  They are now telling us that the cancer has moved to his bladder.  They are recommending hormone shots for him since he has had radiation before and they can't seem to find his old records.  I am reading a lot about the neobladder on here and am wondering if this is an option for him.  Did anyone have the hormone shots?  I am clueless so please help!

I also developed prostate cancer back in 2004 and was assured that I was in the 90%recovery rate because we used radiation treatment to destroy the cancer cells with pin point radiation treatment.
In 2008, i informed my doctor that I appeared to have an increase in the amount of blood in my urine and was blown off by the oncologist that it was perfectly normal for those of us who were on a steady use of coumidan (used for my Atril Fib problem.  By December of 2008, I was in the ER because I could no longer urinate due to blood clots blocking my pee hole.
To make a long story short, I had developed a very invasive bladder cancer which required a complete removal of my bladder and other assundary parts such as the prostate, and lymphnodes.  The cause of this cancer was directly related to the fact that I had chosen to have radiation treatment instead of prostate removal back in 2004.  I was quite shocked to find out from the urinary doctor that there has been a 60% increase in the development of bladder cancer for those of us who chose to have our prostrate cancer destroyed by radiation treatment.  The people who try to convince you that radiation treatment is the best way to go if you want to save your sex life activities after treatment.
This was not the type of information that doctors use when they con you into using cancer removal with radiation treatment as being in your beast interest.  It's not clear to me that this is a situation where legal action could or should be taken, due to the failure of these doctors to inform you of what your chances are when confronted with a choise.   So now I was informed that by having my entire bladder ,et-al removed, I was assured that I was in the 90% success range again!  Needless to say, the fact that I have a good chance to be cured, doesn't hold much water with me after my exoerience.
Has anyone else out there had this experience? and if so, what actions are you taking or contemplating?  I would be greatful for any information regarding this matter!
