Four years ago I had Lap surgery to remove a lot of fluid filled ovarian cysts that were not going away on their own. The Dr. put me back on oral contraceptives to discourage them. Things were okay-some of my periods were still very violent - (major bleeding, diarrhea and cramping). Last fall (2004) I began getting a lot of GI problems. I went the GI Dr. and he told me I had mild to moderate GERD. My brother died of esophageal cancer in 2003-so they put me on Nexium-I also wound up having my gallbladder out in Dec. 2004. Meanwhile-during all of this my father is dying of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (he passed on Jan 1, 2005). I was having a lot of GI problems-diarrhea, cramping, bloating-and just attributed most of it to stress. In March I noticed I had to pee a lot-and my bladder always felt like there was pressure there. I went to the GYN-there was blood in my urine so they thought it was a UTI-nope-the test showed nothing. Then-I started having major pelvic pain, cramping and such-they sent me for a vaginal US-and everything looked good. He upped my oral contraceptives to a stronger dose-we thought that would help. Still every time I had my period-and at most other times-I couldn't stand for anyone or anything to press on my stomach in the pelvic area. The GI problems have persisted. My family physician did fecal occult blood tests, parasite and ova tests, and blood work thinking I might have a parasite or something-everything came back normal. So then he ordered a CT of my abdomen and pelvis. Low and behold -there was a tumor in my left ovary-about 2.3 cm X 2.3 cm. He sent me to my GYN for a follow-up-had to see the nurse practioner. I told her I was having pain on both sides-she did a pelvic and only felt the left ovary tumor. They did a vaginal US and there is also one in my right ovary. Now-either the CT scan did not measure correctly- or the one in my left ovary grew sort of fast. In the 2 weeks in between-the size was now about 3.4cm X 3.5cm-and the one in the right ovary is about 1cm X 1cm. The left one they suspect is a dermoid-but are not sure; the right one has some debris in it? What is debris? I have a surgical consult with my GYN on July 11th-and am very anxious. Should I be worried? I have had all of the symptoms of Ovarian cancer except the heavy bleeding lately.... sorry for the length of this msg. I just thought a little background would be helpful.
