Hi All --

I've been doing a fair bit of reading about Fucoidan lately and was wondering if there is anyone on this board who is using it?  How does one determine how much is needed?  Are there any contraindications?  Looks like there is a company in Tasmania making it -- have you heard of them??  All info welcomed!!  Many thanks, Cath

Good Morning Cath;

I've been doing a fair bit of reading about Fucoidan lately and was wondering if there is anyone on this board who is using it?  How does one determine how much is needed?  Are there any contraindications?  Looks like there is a company in Tasmania making it -- have you heard of them??  All info welcomed!!

Knowing you from your posts, you have done your homework on this product and I doubt I can enlighten you other than to add these few comments.

I purchased a bottle awhile ago from a gal who sells it locally. It ain't cheap! In fact, by her calculations I would spend approx. $800.00 for a six month supply.

You can purchase it 3 ways, the most potent being the "slime" in the bottles. However, pills and liquid are also available.

Being that it is a natural, organic product I doubt there are any bad side effects. The Asians, from what I have read, have been consuming this kelp product for generations. And they have the lowest cancer rate in the world! Yet they smoke more cigs than we Americans. Gotta be some truth in diet.

No, I have not yet opened my bottle. I'm taking my good Drs. advice and letting modern medicine ride its course with this disease. But after day +180. Well, I wonder how well it mixes with beer?

How's the Fall colors down below? Spring time here is glorious! Next weekend I should be able to put in my Garden.

Take care;

Kevin

Hi Kevin!  How are you feeling now -- I've been following your comments to others and it sounds as though you are gradually recovering your strength which is a very good sign!!  Apart from enjoying Spring, have you been able to get out into your garden and do some planting??  I've always found that planting gives me a very positive physical/psychological support in watching the things start to thrive, flower, and fruit-- I can then draw the analogy to my own situation which helps to give me strength to carry on.  Who can resist watching things grow and blossom as a sign of LIFE!!

We, on the other hand, are enjoying one of the best Autumns ever.  Its probably as a result of the drought -- the only good thing, and the cold crisp nights -- but this year we have the most beautiful reds, oranges, yellows and browns of the leaves of the deciduous trees.  Bob and I have been going out taking pictures of these leaves -- why? Goodness knows what I'm going to do with them, but I am enjoying finding the trees and framing the photos -- thank goodness for digital cameras for otherwise this would be costing a fortune!!

I'm off to have a pneumonia immunisation -- apparently we should have them once every 5 years as protection -- as I am presently feeling better than I have in a very long time.  I don't want to jinx my situation, but it really is amazing how quickly I have sprung back from the kidney stone incident to now where I have NO pain and am actually waking up pain free each morning, despite the fact that I still have lesions on all my bones, including my skull and compression fractures in my spine which have caused me to shrink by 3 inches!!  Just goes to show that even with a myriad of symptoms I can still be pain free and be able to live a reasonable life style, looking forward to attending my grandsons first birthday in another State next month in the certainty that I'll get there which I haven't been able to do for a long time.  Maybe this is a plateau, but I'm going to enjoy it for as long as I can -- viva the plateau!!  Enjoy the Spring -- all the bulbs and the aroma's of all the flowers -- and plant something special for the coming year, preferably something that will flower and fruit this summer!!  Take good care and contine to grow stronger.  By the way, I was reading an article from Sloan Kettering that was advocating people having a double transplant -- one shortly after the first -- as offering the best prognosis for MM.  Have you heard this?  Be interested in hearing -- Cheers, Cath

HI Kevin!  I've had a response from the firm in Tasmania who are making Fucoidan to say that they are not allowed to sell it here in Australia and that they are only making it for the Asian market.  Apparently it is legal over there and although they don't give me a price they did say that the people in asia seem to be taking 250mg capsules as the norm.  I'll continue to see if its available here through someone else and let you know how I go!  Cheers, Cath

Good Evening Cath;

Hi Kevin!  How are you feeling now -- I've been following your comments to others and it sounds as though you are gradually recovering your strength which is a very good sign!!

I'm doing better. Getting stronger each day. I haven't been able to comment on many of the topics, I almost feel like the little kid at the big person table!

Gram always said: "Spending some time in the garden puts lifes problems in perspective." I agree that there is a psychological component besides the actual physical one of planting something. I also firmly believe that every child should have a garden. What they learn will last them a lifetime. It additionally gives them an appreciation for farmers and what they must endure.

We, on the other hand, are enjoying one of the best Autumns ever.

Good! Because in a few short months, well... you know what's coming.

By the way, I was reading an article from Sloan Kettering that was advocating people having a double transplant -- one shortly after the first -- as offering the best prognosis for MM.  Have you heard this?

I believe another poster, perhaps with a different cancer, had mentioned this before. His Dr. felt that attacking the cancer right after the SCT was the best defense. I'm looking at getting stronger, getting back into my usual routine and perhaps over Christmas traveling to Ark. to see their Drs. and seeing which route I should follow. I figure it can't hurt to get another opinion and I hear they are thee gurus on MM. I'm also doing some research on a tandem transplant. My brother is an "A" match and one of the "pros" who posts here feel that an Allo SCT is the best bet for a cure, if one exists. But, that's down the road. Live for today!

Take care;

Kevin
