Hello,

I've been on Lupron for about three months and the hot flushes are really a drag. I get them very often.

I've read that a Doctor can prescribe something that helps with them. Has anyone done this?

My concern is...........A.,,,,,,,,,,does it work? B. .......Does it mess with the effectiveness of the Lupron?

Many thanks...................Stan.

I get hot flashes with the Lupron, but I personally feel its a plus.  Sweating from the hot flashes burns up calories which in turns helps keep your weight lower. My weight has dropped 8 lbs since starting lupron.  And you know lupron is not really benedicial for your heart- so I look at this way it keeps me more trim and not get overwieght. So good things can occur with the uncomfortable at the same time. Tip- drink or use fat free soy milk with your cereal, avoid meat and dairy products and avoid eggs.Good luck

Side effects and hot flashes can often be helped with;

time,nutrition, exercise, supplements, soy, red clover, medications.

Things that can cause problems are hot drinks, coffee, alcohol, spicy food, intense exertion.

Stan:

Some men (and women) claim St John's wort is effective. Megastrol (Megace) is commonly prescribed for your symptoms. Some studies found that it may have encouraged cancer growth though nothing conclusive was found. Progesterone or estradiol (female hormone components) will likely be effective and have the added bonus of reducing bone loss from the Lupron effect. Cost for these is low, by comparison to Lupron. No man should suffer these effects unnecessarily.

I took Lupron in the form of an insert in my upper arm for a year and yes I had hot flashes, but I looked on them as one of the lessor evils of treating this obsecne disease. After removal of the insert said hot flashes declined in both frequency and severity until they finally stopped completely after about six months.

So now my PC is in remission (PSA >0.01) and I am a whole man again.

Enough said!!

Don

Megace worked on me but it makes you ravenous. Clonodine, (Catatapress tts-1) is what I am on now and it also works without increasing appetite. Also better for your heart than Megace. I had them so bad i could melt a snowbank at 20 yards.

Ditto to that!!! I felt hungry when I was so full I couldn't possibly safely eat anything else.  Thank God they didn't last long and I was able to quit taking Megastrol.
