I just discovered this forum, while searching for information on my mother's condition. She will be 85 in November. She has a breast & lymph nodes removed in 1993 with breast cancer and at that time was given no followup treatment. She had an HMO supplement to medicare and claimed they wanted the seniors to die rather than treat them. She has had 2 open heart bypass surgeries 1 @ 60 and 1 @ 75 and carotoid artery surgery also. She always felt she would die from a massive heart attack. Well, in Dec 2005 she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She had surgery in Jan 2006 and at the time the cancer was explained as periteneal. She had Chemo ( not sure what drugs) - 6 treatments about 3 weeks apart and pulled through that well. The tests a few months after showed she was in remission. In Dec 2007, she had a something on her liver they said they would watch. She came to Arizona for 3 months and had one CA125 blood test ( was elevated) and she just received news yesterday that the original tumor on the liver is the same - they feel it is benign, but there are 3 others. They are starting chemo on Monday. The oncologist said " You received 2 years from the 1st chemo and maybe you'll get another 2 yrs." She is a very strong person with a will to live and a fighter. Her attitude is " Well, what I am going to do but fight?"
I'm not hearing very good things about survival when the cancer goes to the liver. What is the survival rate, if there is any way to know that? She is now back in Illinois and I would like to have a better understanding of when I need to go and see her. I appreciate any help with this or the answer is unknown. Thanks,
