My mom has recently been diagnosed with cervical cancer. due to her lack of insurance, getting testing done and questions answered has been a slow process. Financial help seems to be much closer because she is getting calls out of the blue from doctor's offices to schedule procedures and such. She has just had a huge benign tumor removed along with the ovary that it was attached to significantly. According to the GynOnc, this will be better in the long run. Apparently readiation may adversely affect the tumor and possibly cause infection.
She has still yet to be staged which is frustrating. She has also yet to be treated. She does have a meeting the Radiologist tomorrow so hopefully that will clear up some of the confusion. What we know for sure right now is that the cancer is extended "all the way out to the pelvic wall". She has had kidney failure and as result, she now has nephrostomy (drainage) tubes in her kidneys. The doctors have maintained (up until the week before surgery) that the large tumor was causing the blockage of the ureters. The last consultation a week before surgery the doctor mentioned that the kidney failure is being caused by the cancer and not the benign tumor. I;m confused because no forther testing was done to determine this fact. It was almost as if they changed their minds after looking over old test results.
Frustration aside.... As far as I can tell from doing a little research, she is a least a Stage 3B. No word on further organ or lymphnode involvement. The radiologist has said that she cannot have internal radiation due the extensive spread of the cancer.
Throughout everything, she feels good. No pain really which is surprising to all. I know I am rabbling and I'm sorry. I just want to know if anyone else is in the same boat as she is now and what kind of advice can be offered. Please help.....
