Subject: Clomipramine + Temodar??
Date: 05/14/2008

After reading posting of 4/28/08 concerning the usage of clomipramine I decided, why not?  Our neuro-onc. had never heard of this usage but said it couldn't hurt.  I wondered if a low-dose daily Tem. should be used in conjunction with this.

Brother dx. 9/11/07, inoperable GBM, almost tennis ball size.  I posted the "Stable MRI but patient decling"  message 5/4/08.

We've stopped the 5/23 Temodar after 5 rounds post rad/chemo combo.  Will probably try the Avastin-CPT 11 and see if he can tolerate it.  Worried about the 2-3% chance of stroke or hemmorage during treatment, but at this rate he'll just get worse and slowly die.

Anyone heard of patients having stroke during Avastin treatment?

My husband has had 5 treatments of avastin and cpt-11 and so far so good. He does take zofran for nausea and imodium .He is also pretty tired but we know that this is the right combination for this disease. I know there are also many other patients on this message board that have taken this combo longer than my husband.  I think the avastin and cpt-11 is the new break through treatment for stabilizing, shrinking and delaying regrowth of the tumor. That is just my opinion and my sincere hope for my husband and others fighting this battle.

Treatments for my husband are 1 every other week so hes almost done with 6 weeks of treatments.

My husband is starting on Avastin and CPT 11 tomorrow. I have not heard of the possibility of stroke but a side effect of the avastin is high blood pressure so I guess anything is possible. Another side effect is seizure which worries me seeing he has already had his share of seizures. The temodar didn't work for him, he had regrowth after 33 treatments of radiation and temodar. He finished the Radiation & Temodar on April 2 and regrowth was noticed on MRI done April 30th.

I pray that some day soon they will find the right combination to control this.

My husband may be starting CPT-11 & Avastin shortly.  The neuro-oncologist we consulted said he would have to take a form a heparin during avastin treatment.  It is a bloodthinner that will help prevent blood clots and strokes while using avastin.  Bloodthinners, especially the injectable kind, are not a lot of fun, but I have had bloodclots and they are horrible and very life threatening.  It would be something to discuss with your doc.

Best wishes,

I have stage 4 colon cancer.  They added Avastin to my FOLFOX regiment on the 4th round.  I had two rounds of Avastin when oncologist noticed my mouth was drooping slightly, MRI proved I did have a stroke, The Avastin was discontinued.  It also raised my BP by 60 points systolic

You might want to get a second & third opinion on the reading of the MRI. We were told my dad's GBM was back and the Temodar wasn't working because they saw regrowth on the MRI and CT Scan. We asked a Dr. at Duke for a second opinion, and he advised his oncologist to increase his steroids, wait a month, and get another MRI. Turns out it was fluid - NO regrowth, and because the steroids reduced the fluid and swelling, thenew MRI and CT scans showed the area decreased, not increased. We're continuing w/Temodar.
