I am RCC patient with lung mets since April 2007.

I have completed 3rd cycle of sutent 50 mg per day. During the last 10 days of the 3rd cycle I developed hand & foot syndrome which cause discomfort and create hinderences in walking.

Can anybody inform me about the remedial measures to be taken or any medicine  to arrest the hand foot syndrome

Thanks

Dear Rajasaju,

I was on Sutent for 12 cycles at 50 mg doses. I had the foot and hand syndrom, however it was not too bad. My sister, who has been an oncology nurse for about 25 years gave me the following information that is recommended to patients receiving Sutent. I used this from almost the very begining of my treatment.  She told me to take 3- 100 mg tablets of vitamin B-6 a day. I usually took two in the AM and one before I went to bed. Also, I used "Udder Smooth" to help with the dryness and "Udder Balm" to help with the sores. I have also seen a post in which someone used ice on their feet when they got inflammed and hot to the touch. I wish I would have found out about that one earlier. Anyway, check with you Dr before you start the vitamins to make sure it's OK.

 Hang in there!

Terry

Be careful about the dose of B6.  Amounts over 200 mg can be toxic in some persons, so be sure to check with your oncologist before taking this vitamin.

I've been in a clinical trial using Sutent to control my metastisized thyroid cancer for about a year.  I've been taking Vitamin B-6 (200 mg daily with my doctor's permission) for the last few cycles.  It helps alot with the peeling and flaking, although it doesn't help me much with the pain.

Udder Creme, Bag Balm, and Gold Bond Foot Creme help some with the peeling and pain as well.  Using an ice pack is a big help, too.
