Leep, Tubal, & Ablation Of My Uterus???

I am 28 years old I was recently diagnosed with CIN II.

My Dr.s office wanted to schedual a LEEP right away but I insited on talking with my Dr. first.

My family has an exstencive history of cervical, uterin, ovarian cancers & endometetreosis. 

I told my Dr. that I am not convinced that a LEEP will be a good long term solution. I would rather just get a historectomy & get rid of any future chance at any of those things. My Dr. does not want to do that. She pretty much talked me in to it.

I also had other concerns that I talked to her about such as, I DO NOT want any more children or periods. I have not had a period in over a year because of birthcontrol & I don't really want it back or to keep taking birthcontrol. She sugested that I have the LEEP to get rid of the cancer, my tubes tied so I can't get pregnant & an Ablation of my uterus to help control my periods.

Because of the many women I have heard that the leep did not work for & my family history I am still not convinced but I guess that I have to go through all of this & just take my chances & if it does not work then she will do a historectomy.

I have never had any kind of sugery & I am SCARED! I was doing ok but the closer to surgery day the more worried I get. I feel like I should not be so freaked out about it because it is such a common thing but I am!

Well... I guess I don't really have any questions rather I just wanted to vent & maybe get some comfort from people that understand.

I know your scared, but I just the LEEP procedure is actually relatively painless.  See many comments from other people on this procedure and they will indicate the same information.  It took me 15 minutes and they numbed me up.  The procedure was not bad at all.  It actually seemed way too easy of a procedure to get rid of an ugly cancer.  I had CIN II, CIN III, and carcinoma in SITU.  After the procedure, I did not need any medication and was able to go out to eat dinner right after.  You might feel like you have slight cramps, but that is it.  I wouldn't undergo a hysterectomy unless the LEEP procedure is not taking care of your issue.  A hysterectomy is way too much at this point for what you have.  Make sure your making your decisions based on information and not from basic fear.  I felt the exact same way when I first found out about my cancer, but have done lots of research and talked to 2 doctors. and have calmed myself down.  Cancer is pretty scary stuff but the technology is extremely good for Cervical Cancer now.  If you are still scared, I would get a second opinion.

It's not just a leep. I am also having my tubes tied & Ablasion. I am having all three done at the same time & it's going to take about an hour & I will be unconscoius for the surgery. That is kind of scary for me because I have never had any major sugery. I know just the leep is not that big of a deal. I am very well informed about it both good & bad.

Also I am worried because of my history & my family history. I have had 2 abortions, becuse my body could not handle the pregnancies, 1 misscarage, one premature birth with complications & HPV. As for my family My Grandmother, 2 Aunts & my mother all had cervical, uterin & ovarian cancers that were all treated more than once. That makes me at higher risk for later problems. That is what worries me about the future.

I will go trough with the procedure any way because I can not what if the situation. I can just hope that every thing will be fine after.

 

 

If you are already having surgery, I would go ahead and have a hysterectomy.  I did not realize how strong a family history you had.  Your going to be dealing with the potential of cancer always.  I am not sure how well the technology is for identifying ovarian and uteran cancer, but I wouldn't want to be dealing with all 3 of those potential cancers.  I would get a different doctor and see how to move forward.   

I have four questions for you.

1., Did you see the lab report?

2. Did she give you a thorough discussion of the kind of dysplasia you have, where it's located, how extensive it is, if it's in the endocervical canal, and if the endocervical glands are involved?

3. Did she discuss the risks and benefits of all your options, before making a recommendation?

4. Given your family history of cancer, why did she not want to honor your treatment preference?

According to the guidebook I found on LEEP, she is required to discuss all your options, so what you posted about what she wants to do raises some questions. I know this is scary enough, but looking at the lab report will be the first step in helping you decide which treatment option is best for you. It will also get you proactively involved with doing what is best for your health, which will definitely help remove some of the feelings of helplessness. Also consider getting a second opinion before you do anything. If your doctor is also not willing to do all of the above, please fire her. From personal experience, I know you will feel so much better when you have a  doctor who wants to work with you rather than do something to you.
