My husband was 11 day's post rad when the side of his neck
got extremely red and painful. Got in to see his radiolgist who
said it was a severe burn from radiation and gave him a gell
dressing to put on which actually made it worst.

Anybody out there that has experiance this.

Hey Deb,

Go back or call your doctor to see if he has another suggestion. Sounds like he has open wound on the neck because of the gell dressing he suggested?? Silvadine is another good ointment intended for burn...but talk with your doc.

I had radiation 3 year's ago for tongue base cancer. Not only was my mouth burnt up, the last week of radiation my neck starting oozing because it was burnt so bad . I had a per medicated bandage that cost 25.00 for 2 , but it did the trick. My neck healed beautiful with a tan. It's still very sensitive to the sun. I wish I could say my mouth healed like that. My inside cheeks still look like someone put a match to them and my mouth is very sensitive and even biotene mouth wash burns bad. I wish I knew the name of the badage . Sorry.. I do hope he finds something to help. I remember it being so painful to have water hit my neck in the shower.

Blessings,

Debi

Silvadene is the best cream ever!  And, we are still using the leftovers.  My husband forgot sunscreen on his neck and has what we think is sunpoisoning.  The silvadene cream is helping with that.  Also know that it peels away and is gone fairly quickly.

I am about half way through radio and chemotherapy(Erbitux) treatment for neck cancer. Radiotherapy will produce a burning of the neck while Erbitux will produce a nasty rash, a side effect, in the area that is being treated. I have been using the following products with a pretty high level of satisfaction. Camomile herbal tea applied to the areas of burn and rash as often as you wish very very soothing and good healing properties if skin erupts..  Aveeno  Daily Moisturising Lotion with colloidal oatmeal again applied the burn area and rash, Manufactured by Johnson&Johnson UK., and Rowa Aqueous Cream again used as a moisturiser. With radiotherapy try and stay out of strong sunlight and scented soaps and shampoos. Drink lots of fluids.  Good luck

My husband just finished 35 radiation , and two chemo treatments, and on both sides of his neck...his whole neck was cracked, and raw, we found the best was saline soaked cloth and leave on neck for 10 minutes or so. Apply two or three times per day..... The gel didn't seem to work as well...Two months later his neck looks great, actually it was only one month later, all healed....
