My husband was 11 day's post rad when the side of his neck
got extremely red and painful. Got in to see his radiolgist who
said it was a severe burn from radiation and gave him a gell
dressing to put on which actually made it worst.

Anybody out there that has experiance this.

Oh, yes. You get burns inside and out. My radiation oncologist recommended Aquafor lotion, and others around here have mentioned Kerri lotion.

If its getting too burned, they might want to adjust the radiation aim/dosage or have him take a couple of days off to heal.

Best wishes.

Deb:

After radiation was completed, my neck was terribly burned and very painful  and I even had sores on the back of my neck. My oncologist told me to get Aquaphor, and it worked extremely well. After a couple of days the pain disappeared and I started to heal. I still use it for dry hands!

Hi Deb,

I have been using a cream called RADX which I ordered on line.  It works better than the lotion I was told to use from the oncologist.  I am very fair and burn easily anyway, but this has kept the burns away.

They also have a sunblock  that is suggested for use for 3 years after treatment.

Delivery was very quick.

Hope this helps.  D.

I remember how red my husband's neck got during radiation.  They say you can also use a clear aloe ...the kind without anything added to it.  My husband's skin on his neck was so sore that we cut the neck band off some of his t-shirts so it wouldn't hurt as much when wearing a shirt.

Some burns are so bad that they have to stop radiation for few days/weeks for the burns to heal a little.  It's best not to stop the radiation.
