Subject: WBS Results
Date: 05/20/2008

My results are in.  Uptake only in the neck area! YEAH!!!  I am soooo relieved!  I was lucky I caught it in time.  After my side effects subside I will go back to a more normal life.  I will of course have a tracer and another WBS next spring for follow up.  But after all of this, that will be a breeze.

My advice to everyone just starting this procedure is to stay POSITIVE!  You CAN get through this.  Time will pass faster than you think it will right now.  Everyone reacts differently than others.  Unfortunately some of you will suffer from side effects that others of us were fortunate not to experience.  Stay educated, ask too many questions, and be proactive.  You are your best advocate.  Make you doctors perform for you.  If you don't trust your doctor, move on.  There are some great doctors out there.

I will definitely stay on this message board.  Hopefully those of us that have gone through this, can help others through it.  The board was a great support for me.  I had questions answered that doctors never approach.  I still think ALL doctors should sign on to boards like this as caregivers and realize what their patients actually experience.  What an education that would be for them!

I now plan to get back on track and live life to it's fullest.  I have been blessed and I don't want to waste one minute of my gift!

Good luck to everyone and don't be afraid to ask the questions.  We'll help where we can!

Enjoying paradise!

Donna

Donna, That is so great.  I'm so happy for you.  I too stay on this board to try to help others through the tough times.  I have my 6 month scan in July, and if that is all clear, I'm good for another year.  I agree about doctors reading these posts, that would be a good education for them.  Well, enjoy your summer, I'm sure I will run into you again helping others go through what we have already been through!!  YEAH YOU!!!!!!!!!  Skylog

I got my WBS results back and I dont understand what's going on. My endo dr said just to come in 6/5 for my appt I had set up with her prior to results coming in-Had 100 mili dose on 5/5-Scan on 5/16.Had been on lid diet since last surgery 3-13 when right thyroid and ithmus was removed. Left side had been removed 2/28 (that's when cancer found-prev biopsy did not show cancer-they had removed left side since nodule was large).Took citomel until week before scan. Then put on regular diet same day after dose--started synthroid 5/9. Here's what wbs report says: Findings: 2 wks following ablative doe, wbs scan was performed. There are 3 foci of activity in the neck, one of which may be in the left submandibular gland but two foci in the mid neck are indicative of either residual thyroid tissue or possibly neoplasia. Therefore clinical and laboratory follow-up needed. Follow-up scanning can be carried out as indicated. There is no distinct area to suggest metastatic disease to body. Impression: Focal activity in the neck, differentiation of residual thyroid tissue from neoplasia is difficult at this point and therefore clinical follow-up required regarding laboratory testing and further imaging as required. So, what does this mean? Sounds like to me, they are not sure if cancer is all gone...?So, does anyone know what happens next? Thanks.

I wish I could help you out.  I haven't read my report; got a call from my endo after the WBS results came in.

The good thing from the your report is that your cancer did not metastasize elsewhere in your body.  My endo said that the only uptake was in my neck area which is expected; they can never remove all of the thyroid tissue.  I do know from study that the RAI residual in your body will will kill off existing thyroid cancer cells.

If I were you, I'd call my dr for an explanation just to ease your mind.
