Five years ago my mother became sick rather suddenly. Her only
symptom had been extreme fatigue. After a routine colonoscopy
they thought she may have had an absess in her colon. During
surgery a ten pound leiomyosarcoma was removed as well as one
of her kidneys. She was given radiation as a precaution and was
fine for a year and a half. Then it spread to one of her lungs. She
had surgery later that year to remove 2 tumors. At her next CT
scan, that tumors were now up and down both lungs. While she is
still in pretty good health with seemingly few symptoms, her
tumors have continued to aggressively grow. She started taking
Gleevec on July 1. At a cancer convention in May studies had
shown some effectiveness in shrinking/growth prevention in
tumors in the lungs. Has anyone else out there had success with
this drug treatment. I'd love to hear your story.
