Subject: Too weak for chemo and Tarceva don't work
Date: 05/21/2008

Hi,

Doctor told us that our dad is too weak for any type of chemo and Tarceva don't work on him (after taking Tarceva for 5 weeks) because the cancer con't to grow and attack his back.

But we do not want to delay anymore. His cancer has mets to his brain, and his back.

Anyone any solution to offer?

My dad do not want to go for brain RT, any other alternatives?

p.s. his is disgnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (heavy smoker). (Our country do not have cyberknife or gamma knife)

Thanks.

Hey, I'm very sorry to hear about your dad, My grandfathers tarceva stopped working for him, and they tried chemo, which seemed to make matters worse! The doctors told us there was nothing more they could do and told him to get on hospice which made his last weeks less painful and more comfortable for him. It's a very hard decision to make, and is also very hard to see someone you love very much decline like this, it will not cure him, but will make him more comfortable. Again, i am sorry.

If you are looking for an alternative, there is some information I can give you.  All cancers can benifit from it but lung cancer in particular reacts quickly to it.

I hope this helps.

My husband died of lung cancer 8 weeks ago.  He too tried Tarceva.  I highly recommend Hospice.  I wish we had called them sooner because my husband was in alot of pain right up till the end.

I am sorry.  I truly know the pain you are going thru.

Here is a site that has a lot of good information on lung cancer including some alternative treaments.  Our prayers are with you:

My suggestion is to look outside the box that has failed to help your father at a protocol that has been over 90% successful and uses only nature - which in my opinion is the best option for ALL cancers period.

My own 85 year old uncle, also a lifelong heavy smoker and a pipe smoker at that, had lung cancer that mainstream medicine was unable to help.  Despite glowing assurances, the tumor continued to grow and began to spread.  He rejected increased radiation and chemo and opted for a protocol very much like this one:

"Healing Illness - A Natural Anti-Cancer Protocol" http://www.naturalnews.com/022808.html

The major component of that protocol has been over 90% successful in cancers of various types and stages, even very late stages, and is available as an inexpensive herbal supplement.

See "Success Against HIV and Cancer in South Africa" http://www.naturalnews.com/023206.html

Besides a track record of overall effectiveness against cancer, and effectiveness against lung cancer, I believe the supplement further will further suit your father because it crosses the blood brain barrier and is particularly effective against brain cancer.

My final advice - do not give up hope and do not rely on just one substance.  As outlined in the above protocol, beating cancer is best don with a comprehensive approach.  A natual comprehensive approach I might add.  And don't worry - nature has never been a quack (though there are no lack of quacks who would misuse nature).

Live long, live healthy and live happy!

How does one know that Tarceva 'did not work' ? My husband will be (finally) starting Tarceva 150 in about 1 week. He has lung cancer and has already done radiation, but now he has mets to the back bone. So Tarceva is next. But how do you even know it is or is not working? He has alot of pain from the back right now and we wonder if the Tarceva will help with reducing pain over time.

Thanks, to anyone who wants tell me about their Tarceva exxperience.

Hi Nadeene, we actually asked the same question to the doctor but she insist that since the tumor continue to grow, Tarceva is out of his treatment. We actually wanted to try for few more weeks but not given the prescription again. We are really sad and at lost now cos' we believe different people reaction is different and maybe more time needed for my dad to see the positive result of Tarceva.(Read that Iressa don't prolong life)

Is there any newest drug available for Non-small cell lung cancer?

Thanks.
