Hi, My husband went out to md anderson for an opinion. He has colon cancer with liver mets. he has had 2 colon surgerys and is not taking chemo.  Well i was wondering who anyone saw at md anderson (what doctor) and if you were or were not impressed with the doctor you saw.  We are actually wanting to get another opinion from MD Anderson but with another doctor.  ANY advice would help.

He has 1 7cm tumor on right lobe and 2 smaller tumors on left lobe.  THe 7cm tumor had grown from 3cm to 7 cm in a matter of 3 weeks.  Isnt that fast.

please help we have 2 wonderful little boys to raise.

K, I am a cancer survivor who was diagnosed with colon cancer with
liver mets on Nov07.  After the colon resection, we (my wife & I )
interviewed several oncologists. We chose Dr. Jabboury at the West
Houston Medical Center.  Dr. J is very knowledgeable and approachable.
He also explains his strategy and takes the time to talk with you.  The
staff is warm, caring and the practice is a genuinely healing &
loving environment.  Rather than the "clinical" offices you may have
probably seen. I have completed 8 courses of chemo with good results
and few side effects.  I know this is a time of great concern and
uncertainty for you and your family.  We have four little kids to
raise.  We have proceeded with and through the grace and mercy of God.
May Christ & the Holy Spirit be with you.  Dr. J's number is
281-558-5385, 12121 Richmond Ave, Houston, TX  77082

I am not sur eif you went to Anderson because you live in Texas or not but if you can travel you might want consider contacting a liver surgeon in Pittsburgh.  Pittsburgh is actually the liver surgery/liver transplant capital of the country and some of the most aggressive surgeries are done there.  The rock star at UPMC is David Geller (he is a transplant doc) but I have also heard very good things about the surgical oncologists that practice our of Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh (It is connected to the Cancer Center).

If you don't mind me asking, why is your husband off of chemo?  Because of the colon surgery?

he was off chemo because of his surgery in april. He just started his chemo back last week and is supposed to start on Avastin next week. I know he is on 5fu (he was on oxaliplatin his first series but they took him off that this second time) I am not sure what the other chemo med he is on, he wont let me go to the doctor with him and kindof keeps me in the dark about what is going on so i do not worry (yea right)

He was diagnosied with colon ca on 10-22 surgery 10-27 (found liver mets supposely just 1)  then chemo til March rescaned showed more tumors in colon so had second colon surgery in april found now 2 liver mets. Went to Md anderson found total of 3 liver mets the biggest being 7.5cm in right lobe and 2 smaller ones in left lobe

Hi...My mom has colon to liver mets. We live in Ohio but traveled to MD Anderson immediately! We see Dr. Eddie Abdalla there. He will be doing my mothers liver resection later this summer. We were very impressed with him and his staff. Met many of his former 'survivor' patients whom once were Stage 4 and now are cancer free and have been for a number of years! YEAH!! Someone above me mentioned Pittsburgh....well....sorry but I beg to differ. I live less than an hour from there and I decided to travel accross the country because MDA has a 100% rating as the best cancer hospital...where Pittsburgh ranks in the 20-30% range. Dr. G might be an exceptional surgeon...but it takes the entire team to make up the 'best'! It's all in the numbers and MDA has the best number to prove it!!
