Subject: I am so worried

My daughter-in-law, age 40, has just had surgery for colon cancer that has spread to the peritoneum.  She is scheduled to have chemo in a few weeks.  She has two little boys, 7 and 10.  We are terribly upset.  The doctor is calling it Stage IV.  She is so young.  My son is devastated.  Is there any hope?

Not sure what part of the country (or world) you are in, but I do know there is a doctor in San Diego who has been recognized for his work in cancer in the peritoneum. I think if you were to look up peritoneum cancer and san diego his name/contact info would show up. He actually called me himself  once when I contacted his office mistakenly thinking we would need his help. I think they were also doing great work with this in Pittsburgh if I'm not mistaken. It's worth looking at options around the country to get the best of the best on your case should you have to discuss surgery or aggressive chemo treatments for that particular type of cancer spread. Also, if you haven't learned this already, the people in Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center are the tops in their field and world reknown. Hope this helps.
