How soon does the weight start to come off after starting on Synthroid? I've gained about 10 pounds since going hypo and am afraid of gaining more once I come off the LID next week.

Oh man, I hate to tell you this, but since my RAI (5 months now) I have gained 30 pounds.  It takes a looooooong time to get those levels right, so you may gain a few more.  I am having a very hard time with the weight issue.  The problem is my metabolism has pretty much slowed to snails pace, and I just didn't have the energy for any knd of physical activity for about 3 months straight.  Not cool, since it is now swimsuit season, and I want to put that on about as bad as I want a hole in my head.  The good news is I know it will come off......someday.  Most people will need to have their meds adjusted at least once.  Then you need to wait 2 months for the levels to become stable, and then you may or may not need to have them adjusted again, then wait 2 months, then blood test again......and so on until you find the right dose, by then you will probably have gained some weight.  Hang in there, we do what we need to do.  STUPID CANCER!!!!!  Take care, Skylog

Ditto - I had a TT in June 07 after gaining 30lbs -- 30 more through 2 bouts of RAI... hang in there! I have lost 15 since being back from spring break but have 45 to go!

I lost a lot of weight while I was unable to eat anything solid (before TT) so I am hoping that if I gain any weight it will put me back up to where I want to be anyway.

I have never had a problem with my weight--always very slender--and this whole hypo thing has been concerned.  I can already tell that my metobolism has slowed way down.  !!!!!

My advice is to continue to eat healthy. Don't deprive yourself but just be more aware of what you eat. I have to watch everything because  I have 0 metabolism right now. For those of you who have put on 30 pounds or more ,I can honestly see how that can happen. The pounds come on so quickly and even though I am being careful the scale doesn't budge.

My best

I had gained about 12-15lbs over the 6 months leading up to finding out I have cancer. I was very hypo and felt awful. I had my TT on April 29th and about 1 1/2 weeks later started Jenny Craig. I have lost 5lbs in the first 2 weeks and am doing it for 2 more weeks until I start the LID. I figure the LID should also help lose weight as it is very healthy foods. I am worried about losing my taste buds from the RAI which I think I am having mid June. I have hashimotos and have all the hypo symptoms still but am on my synthroid and feeling good....
