new symptoms

I was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, (finally) in March. I am now having severe bone pain in the knee joints, arm, sometimes in the hands and feet.  I went and had a double knee cortisone injection 2 weeks ago and my right knee is doing better but my left knee (that has had a partial knee replacement) is not doing well at all.  My orthaepedic told me to tell my onocologist that I have a failed knee replacement and that the knee is diseased, I asked him 3 times why she would need to know and he just insisted to tell her.  Well I got a hold of the onocologists office, mostly because of the bone pains, but also to get some relief. I also am back to sweating like a pig and getting more exhausted then I used to. They moved my CT scan up to next week.

Has anyone out there had experience with bone cancer and some of the symptoms they had with this. Any other suggestions I would appreciate them. Thanks

Are you taking aromasin, or another one of the aromatase inhibitors?  I am for adenosarcoma, and they have caused joint pain and swelling mainly in my hands.  So I wonder what meds you might be taking.

It is important that your doctors communicate with each other and have all the information they need to treat you. I am glad that you are having a ct scan as it is the only way to see if you have a recurrence. Pain does not always mean a recurrence. I never had any symptoms at all and I have had 4 recurrences for myxoid LMS/ESS.

If you are taking an aromatase inhibitor, you didn't say if you have uterine LMS or not, that would cause the pain. If you have arthritis, it exacerbates it. I had to go on a lesser schedule with it because of the bone pain in hips, upper back, knees and feet. I can't tell if it is better yet or not.

Good luck,

Ro

My husband was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer almost 2 years ago.  It was cured after his first round of chemo and radiation, but then came back last November and it has metastisized to his bones (hips and spine).  After 6 rounds of chemo, the cancer in the lung is now gone, but he still has it in the bones.  Along with the chemo they are giving him a medicine that strengthens the bones and he had one more 3-day round of chemo.  We will have a PET scan on Monday and see the oncologist on Friday, June 13th. to see where we're at.  We heard on the news last week that this bone strengthening medicine has been proven to stop the cancer from recurring.  They give it to breast cancer patients a lot.  Other than tiring easily my husband feels great and works every day full time.  Let's keep each other posted.  Also, prayer works.  We're living proof of that.  I wish you well and I try to keep ALL cancer patients (even ones I don't know) in my daily prayers.

You are so right about pain not necessarily meaning the cancer is back.  The oncology nurses told us that sometimes when the tumors are shrinking they cause pain because they are attached to the nerve endings.  Also, the bone strengthening meds that they give my husband along with the chemo can cause pain according to the oncologist.  So, he told us not to be alarmed if there is some pain.
