Chest Xray - Good Detector Or Stage 1?

For those of you who have or know someone with lung cancer, I am so, so sorry.

I was wondering if an simple chest XRAY missed yours or your loved ones initial diagnosis of lung cancer?

.  My mother had a horrible cough and her doc just kept giving her asma and alergy meds. She is non-smoker so the doc didn't think it was necessary.  No x-rays were done of mom until her family doc sent her to an ENT specialist by then the cancer was alreay at stage IV
