There is hope, please tell your mom that everyone here is sending her good healing thoughts and prayers.

My husband just past the 9 month mark with GBM and he's doing great, played golf today and he's off to play again tomorrow.

Check out http://www.virtualtrials.org/survive.cfm, there are lots of stories there.  I'm sure others on this board can point you to more.

Thinking of you and your mom.

Nancy

Let me join Nancy in sending hope to you and your Mom.

My husband is approaching the 14 month mark since being diagnosed with inoperable GBM IV.  On June 11, he will have his last infusion of Avastin / CPT-11.  He's been on this regimen since July 25, 2007.

You said your Mom is going to Duke on Thursday.  Good for her!  My husband is being treated at Duke too.  We live in the area so we are extremely fortunate!

My husband's quality of life is very good.  He too played golf last weekend and they are planning a golf outing for next weekend.  (He had a treatment this past Wednesday so wasn't quite up to it this weekend. Besides, it was 90 degrees today!)

Be prepared to receive hope at Duke and lots of it!

I wish you and your Mom all the best.  Please post when you return, let us know what they have to say and if your Mom's spirits were raised.

Warmest regards

Barb

My wife, 52, GBMIV  dx 1/19/08 non resectable left frontal lobe. Tomodar 5/28 and Avastin IV.  Doing great, driving, gardening - wearing me out!   If I would have believed the stats........ You need to look at the statistics with a grain of salt - they are dated.  Attitude is everything.

Please tell your mom there is life and hope after a GBM Dx. On June 6 I celebrate 1 year of life after GBM. I have had 2 craniotomies, chemo and rads, but I am alive and well. I went out with 2 girlfriends yesterday and we had lunch and pedicures!

Please hug your mom for me.So much of this is mental. Tell her to not give up! God isn't done with her yet.

Don't give up hope.  Miracles happen all the time.  My husband was given 3 to 6 months and we are 16 months out from dx.  They said he would not be able to use his right side and he is fully amblatory.  There will be some hard times ahead, but you can get through them.

John and I will both pray for you and your family.

Connie

My husband is over 2 years out from initial diagnosis and there is no cancer to be seen. Those dismal statistics are hard to hear, they are terrible, but they do include other more positive outcomes. My husband has been medication free for almost a year and spent this last winter skiing and snowboarding. His life is forever changed by GBM, but he is still here living it well, and for that we are grateful. I know initially I could only be sad and angry. Let your mom feel what she feels. Nothing made me feel more isolated than hearing that we were "lucky" or should be "grateful" or that if we wanted a positive outcome we needed to be "positive." Show her that there are people out here surviving and then let her feelings and yours run there course.

Hi Mom,                                                                                                      I can tell you from personal expeince that you can make it. With the help and support of a loving family and the attitude of a stubborn mule I will be a 5yr survivor in August. I still work full time and I am able to drive and do most things I did before. You have to have the attitude that nothing will stop you from surviving this vile disease. Good luck to you and your family. If you ever need to vent to someone who knows what you are going through drop me a note and I will be glad to keep in touch. Take care of yourself. Steve

Hi Again,

I know I am responding to my own message but I just wanted to say thanks to all who have posted and it is working.  Keep posting...my mom loves it!  She was so excited when I was reading the posts to her this morning.  She seems to have some hope!  She is anxious to see Dr. Friedman at Duke on Thursday.  You guys are great!  Dont stop....it helps!!

Just a word.  I hope your Mom won't be disappointed but she likely won't see Dr. Friedman.  It's possible, but more likely she'll see one of the other neuro-oncologists - they're all great!

Good Luck.

Barb
