Hi

Recently had a chest xray and they said i had a 5x4 cm tumor most likely malignant because i was a former smoker.  Told me to see pulmonoligist and oncologist.  Can anyone tell me what would be next  or give me any info at all.  Thank you

Hi Marilyn,

First, they can't tell if it's cancer by looking at an x-ray.

IF it does turn out to be cancer, you will require a biopsy.  Depending on where the tumor is will determine what kind of biopsy will be done.  They will recommend either surgery, chemo, radiation, or chemo/radiation combo.  The type chemo will be determined by the type of cancer.

They will probably order an MRI, CT scan or PET before they do the biopsy.

Be sure to keep a copy of all your test results and scans, everything.  Then I would seek a second opinion prior to any treatment.

Most important, do not put off making those appointments just in case.  With cancer, time is very important.  Once you know the type cancer, do some research before you decide on which of the chemos you want to use based on what they offer.  All treatments have different side effects.

I pray that this is anything but cancer.  God be with you on this journey. Please let us know the results.

Hi Marilyn,

Ditto on what Chessie said...

And, don't give up hope no matter the results and diagnosis!  Everday brings promise and new hope in treating and curing Lung Cancer.  Previous smoker or not, YOU DESERVE the best treatment!  Don't  punish yourself for it now, there is no place for that here.... but do follow up on the next steps right away.

Wishing you good news in the days ahead : )

Some here may not agree with me, but I would strongly suggest that you look not only at mainstream treatment methods but also what natural and alernative treatments have to offer.

Mainstream medicine has not had a great deal of success in the war against cancer.  Despite being ignored and suppressed, nature has been there all along.

:Like others here, I once thought, as we and our doctors have all been taught for generations, that the only real medicine came in a brown prescription bottle and the only real treatments were those of mainstream medicine. After all "Just Ask Your Doctor".  I was badly, badly mistaken.

When it comes to cancer, using surgery, radiation and chemo to try to cut out, burn out, or poison out the symptoms of cancer without addressing the underlying cause, or preventions, or the likely return of cancer, is to me just increidible.

To be sure, there are snake oil salesman and ineffective natural alternatives aplenty - just as their are failed mainstream methods.  But the really good and legitimate natural alternatives have success rates of 90% and above for a wide range of cancers, even late stage ones.  I know this from personal experience, not conjecture.

My own 85 year old uncle had a similar tumor in his lung.  His oncologist was confidant that it had been caught early enough and that targeted radiation pellets would wipe it out in short order.  Instead, the cancer continued to grow and to spread to other parts of his body.

Instead of opting for stronger radiation and the side effects of chemo in a race to kill the cancer before killing a major organ and the patient, he opted for the all natural protocol used by a group of several hundred people on a Yahoo health forum I host and moderate ("Oleandersoup").

Today he is cancer free and enjoying a regular round of golf daily. He is not the exception.  The group is over 5 years old and everyone is still alive and well.

For more information about the protocol:

Don't just take my word for it.  It is one of the strongest recommended cancer treatments at the highly respected CancerTutor website, as well as Natural News, The International Wellness Directory, CureZone, the Annie Appleseed Organization, etc. .

(see http://www.cancertutor.com/Cancer02/Oleander.html )

And, in the end, don't just take anyone's word for it - do your homework and check out what is available inside and outside mainstream medicine and remember that it is your own body and life and no one should make your decision for you.

Best of wishes!

Convential treatment saved my life along with many, many, many others. A combined approach with alternatives will provide additional benefits.  To state that the alternative approach ALONE is the answer  is not only wrong but dangerous, very dangerous.  Where are the success and failure rates for alternatives?.  To hear the advocates, there are nothing but survivors.  That is not true.  If you go the alternative route make sure your insurance company pays for periodic scans to determine whether there  mets or tumors are there.  To not approach it this way may place you in serious danger!

How many have you surveyed to make this claim?.  How many, from your personal experience.have been saved?  What is the size of your representative sample of cancer patients over what period of time and when was it conducted?  What are the failure rates for the alternative approach?.  I don't  have this data and myself and others need this information to make an intelllligent choice
