Hey Everyone,

Well Mom is done with radiation and the temadar. I spoke with the cancer doctor and he said, he would see us the 30 of June and will do another MRI 2 months from today. He said, he wouldn't be able to tell anything if he did it now, that is why he is waiting till then. I don't understand, is this what they all do?

Mom, is now very confused, has a bad rash under her arm. She is very emotional too, this all is getting to me. Any thoughts out there?

Your mom has just been through a lot, both emotionally and phsysically. Give her some time to heal. The reason the dr is waiting on the MRI is because radiation does inflame brain tissue and she/he wants to allow time for that to go away. Otherwise the MRI can be misleading.

Some dr's wait 10 days (as mine did) others wait a little longer.

Give your mom a hug from me and tell her to keep fighting.

My husband had his first post-rad MRI after 4 weeks, then it was every 8 weeks thereafter.  We see the Onc every month for blood work, exam, etc. and he gets an MRI every two months.

The effects of the radiation and chemo are cumulative (as I understand it) so they want to give it time to do it's full job.  Our onc said even the 4 week post-rad MRI was really just a new baseline, it was the one two months after that where we'd truly start being able to measure results.

Sending healing thoughts and prayers to your Mom.

Nancy

Is your mom on dilantin? My mom experienced a horrible allergic reaction to dilantin that began as a small rash that eventually spread head to toe. Just something to consider and look into if it continues.

Stay strong!!! My love to you and your family.

Also watch for fungal infections.  My husband has had several throughout chemo.

My mom also had a reaction to dilantin that started with a rash on her arms. It was within the first two weeks of taking it, though. As soon as the Dr saw it, he immediately took her off the dilantin. She had never had a seizure, so they didn't switch to anything else.

Hi; I f wqas dx with GBM left parietal lobe after craniotomy 04/17/08 and subsequent biopsy confirmed on 4/24/08. This after Grand Mal seizure on 04/12/08. I was discharged from Hospital 04/19/08. My nero surgeon was able to remove all the just over 1 cm (just under 1/2 inch) tumour.

I was prescribed 100mg dilantin by 3 once a day at bedtime. On 05/22/08 I to broke out in a rash and was very itchy, starting on my arm then back of my head then the rest of my body. was not very nice and I wanted to rip my skin of. Put up with till my appt with oncologist on the following Monday where upon he switch me to Keppra. So far so good.

Now to deal with an infection in both my ears. Nothing to do with Radio and Chemo, more to do with the fact that it's winter here in Australia and the cold season is upon us.
